At Superior Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we focus on solving the source of the problem to save your tooth rather than extracting it.

Our endodontic dentists have the knowledge of a general dentist plus an additional 2 years of training on the soft tissue of the tooth, known as the dental pulp. You can expect superior care when visiting one of our offices in Bowie, MD for a pain-free root canal procedure.

Endodontics and Your Oral Health

You may need a root canal if the pulp inside of your tooth becomes damaged. Damage of the pulp causes severe pain in the tooth area, especially when chewing or eating something very hot or cold. The causes of decay or injury to the pulp include a deep decay or a crack or chip in the tooth. Our root canal treatment will end your pain and save your tooth from total decay.

Our team uses local anesthesia so that the entire procedure is painless.

If you are experiencing any discomfort in a tooth and believe you may need a root canal, contact us as soon as possible.

What to Expect During Root Canal Treatment, Step by Step Once we identify damage to the nerves of your tooth and determine that you do need a root canal, we can set up your first appointment. During the first visit, our team will numb the area and remove the infected pulp, including that in the canals going into the roots of the tooth. After we remove the pulp and disinfect the interior of the tooth, we insert a natural plastic-like filling (called gutta percha), and then we completely clean and seal the area.

We cap the tooth with a dental crown. Usually, we use a temporary crown and take measurements to order a permanent crown from the lab. You will visit us again in a couple of weeks to have a custom-made crown put on the remaining portion of your tooth. This will preserve the natural look of your tooth and offer protection to the remaining tooth.

Since we remove all the nerves in your tooth, the pain you previously experienced will disappear as soon as the root canal procedure is complete. Having a root canal is the only way to relieve your discomfort and save your natural tooth.
